As well as being specialists in the cleaning of stone and brick we also carry out the following works. Specialist Masonry (Stone & Brick) Cleaning using the DoFF/Thermatech Ultra High Temperature, low pressure cleaning system & a wet blast system (similar to the JoSS Torque system). Conservation work on listed buildings and ancient monuments especially when having to work with traditional materials such as hydraulic lime rather than cement.

Graffiti Removal - Using environmentally friendly chemicals and the DoFF/ThermaTech cleaning system we can remove all forms of graffiti. We specialise in working on listed buildings and ancient monuments where care must be taken not to destroy the fabric of the building. Removal of Paint from Timber Beams - Strip wooden beams either prior to treating for woodworm or just to leave a natural finish.

Original timber beams and panelling that have had years of accumulated paint or stain applied, can be cleaned back to reveal the wood in its natural state.

This farmhouse was originally covered in a modern thermoplastic masonry paint that was flaking, holding in the moisture and had become an eyesore.
The masonry paint was removed using a ThermoTech (DoFF) superheated water cleaning system to reveal the remnants of the limewash underneath.
At this point there were two options; either remove the limewash to reveal the natural stone or re cover in a breathable paint.
The owners decided to remove the limewash sympathetically in order to see the condition of the stonework.
This limestone cottage unfortunately had a car come around a bend a little too fast and it ended up in the porch - which had to be removed.
Whilst carrying out the removal work it was decided not to re-instate and just to clean the front up to make it match.
The organic matter was removed using our DoFF / ThermaTech superheated water cleaning system and then the joints were repointed using an NHL 3.5 - hydraulic lime mix.
The bitumen (from the Aex of the porch) was removed using a chisel and french drag to blend it into the surrounding stone.
The following monuments were cleaned using a DoFF (similar to Thermatech) Super Heated Water Cleaning System to remove all organic growth (mosses / algaes / lichens) from the stonework without the use of chemicals.
Once cleaned we were able to identify whether further works were required to restore / repair and consolidate the monuments.
This war memorial was cleaned without the use of chemicals using the ThermaTech Superheated water cleaning system.
Even though it had had no tlc for a number of years we were able to remove all the algaes and lichens - incliding black spot without damaging or removing any of the lime pointing.
Removing Limewash from brick and stone can be a difficult task if you don't want to damage the brick or stone.
The problem lies in that it may have bonded really well in some areas whilst being loose and flakey in other areas.
You have to get the balance right in using the correct system to remove the bonded limewash without damaging the underlying stone or brick - this means the right abrasive (normally calcite or dolomite) at the correct pressure.
The photos below show an example of a kitchen wall (grade 2 listed) where the limewash had failed and the client was unsure as to what he wanted to do with the wall - we removed as much of the loose and flaking limewash with the ThermaTech superheated water cleaning system - which then revealed areas where the limewash had bonded.
Have you ever had one of those days - you feel really good about yourself and self satisfied because you've finished the decorating then THIS HAPPENS : The first thought that goes through your mind is probably something like 'Bother & Damnation'!
First things first - clean up what you can whilst it is still wet - the less you have to deal with later the easier it will be.
So use any old towels / rags / cloths / curtains etc and wipe up as much as you can.
Because this spill was right by the doorway it had to be covered over in order for people to get in and out of the property, so they had to cover it up and because it was in the winter it didn't really dry.
