I can put you in touch with people who can help with your grit blasting of beams/brickwork etc, chemical paint removal, chemical cleaning etc. Although we are only a very small company, (and content to stay that way), we have over 30 years experience, and have been engaged several times, at Windsor Castle. As well as cleaning up all the fire damaged beams, brick and stonework, after the fire (we were there for 9 months!), we have cleaned/stripped the Pool Room, The Royal Stables, and various buildings on the site.

Obviously the majority of my work takes place on much smaller properties! Probably 75% of our work is done on listed properties, and it naturally follows that any work we do, is done with great skill and care. Some organisations, such as the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), have expressed reservations about abrasive cleaning and stripping, and, following their advice, some Local Authority Listed Buildings Officers say it is not allowed.

Having seen the results of unprofessional and careless blasting, I can understand this sentiment!
Services
We were able to lightly grit blast the wood, back to the natural colour.
Also, have a look, to see how little damage is done, to the surrounding surfaces.
Also, please look at the floor in the middle photograph on the right.
Ok, there IS a bit of mess and dust, but it cleans up!
If you really feel you cannot tolerate this level of mess and disruption, then perhaps you should get another company in, with their 'Mess Free Process', which usually mean they paint them brown!
Even if they do look, almost oaky, you might be spending years explaining why the beams were painted, to 'Look like oak' rather than actually having them stripped.
There are a couple of other local blast cleaning companies, that I know can do a good job, and I will always try to be competitively priced, against them.
There are numerous other companies offering different methods, for removing paint from old oak beams (or, in the case of some companies painting them brown!)
Certainly, painting them, is less messy, and if you really cannot tolerate a few days mess and inconvenience, by all means paint them brown-or any colour you like!
As well as the usual black, I have stripped white, yellow, turquoise, purple etc! Enlarge the photos, to see how much mess is being created.
